REGIONAL GEOLOGY

Abstract

Junction zone of the shelf structures of the Laptev Sea with the deep-water Eurasian Basin in the Cenozoic sedimentary cover exhibits the areas of development of clinoform complexes and alluvial fans of terrigenous material. Here, a high probability of hydrocarbon accumulation is predicted due to ongoing avalanche sedimentation.
As a result of 2D/3D basin modelling based on seismic data from the Taimyr zone of the Laptev Sea shelf, the most probable models of generation, migration, and accumulation of hydrocarbons were obtained and zones of hydrocarbon saturation (70–90%) were identified in the Middle-Upper Paleogene complex.

Abstract

This article substantiates the deep structure features and the sequence of manifestation of the geodynamic settings of Rudny Altai, which determine the distribution patterns of endogenous pyrite-polymetallic mineralization. To solve the issue at the regional level, a body of geological and geophysical data was interpreted (remote sensing maps, digital models of potential fields, geophysical sections of various types, including seismic data from the WAR geotraverse “Basalt”). When performing detailed paleoreconstructions within the Zmeinogorsk-Bystrushinsky trough, local seismic data were used. The evolutionary development model of the region is presented in the form of a set of paleosections reflecting changes in structural and material parameters at the main stages of the evolutionary development of the region in the geodynamic settings of the active continental margin and the fold-thrust belt of the collision orogen.

Abstract

In the north of the East European Platform, placer deposits of titanium minerals are known only within the Timan fold-block uplifts separating the Pechora and Russian plates. The only occurrence of titanium-bearing placers in the north of the Russian Plate, the Chuplega ore occurrence, was discovered in the core of a borehole drilled 80 km east of the city of Arkhangelsk in the contour of the cognominal arched uplift. Titanium-bearing sandstones in the Upper Vendian terrigenous sequence, penetrated at a depth of 171.4–71.5 m, contain ilmenite and its transformation products: leucoxene, rutile, anatase, brookite. TiO2 concentrations in them vary from 1.32 to 6.1%. The article presents the geological, lithological, mineralogical, and geochemical characteristics of the ore occurrence and the results of the U-Pb isotope study of detrital zircons obtained for the first time. The datings of zircon from the Chuplega placer are very similar to those from the Timan deposits (giant Yarega oil-leucoxene and large Pizhma ilmenite-leucoxene).
The Chuplega ore occurrence is a direct indication of the presence of commercial titanium-bearing placers in the depths of the northern part of the Russian Plate. They can occur at depths (to 200 m) accessible for open-pit mining.

Abstract

The supposed marine nature of authigenic gypsum mineralization, first discovered on exposed dry surfaces of the Middle Quaternary peat bogs, and on the woody debris contained in them, is discussed. Peat bogs protrude from the lower part of the erosional cliffs on the Pechora River near the village Rodionovo, on the Vertny River (right tributary of the Pechora River), and in the Lodmashchelya area on the Seyda River (tributary of the Usa River). The similarity of «paleogypsum» with gypsum grown on modern wood that has been in the sea for a long time allows us to assert that sea water is conserved in peat bogs. Lists of flora and beetles first discovered in the Lodmashchelya peat bog are provided.

Abstract

The article describe the Map of distribution patterns and prediction of the main types of manganese deposits in the Russian Federation at 1 : 2,500,000 scale, compiled in 2022 as GIS projects at A.P. Karpinsky Russian Geological Research Institute based on the analysis and generalization of maps of distribution patterns and prediction of mineral deposits included in the sets of the State Geological Maps 1000/3. We used available information on regional and sectoral metallogeny, balance reserves of deposits of strategic types of mineral raw materials, quantitative assessment of predicted resources (authored and approved) of the Russian Federation (as of 01.01.2022). General information on manganese and ferromanganese ores is provided, predictive criteria for identifying metallogenic units of different ranks are shown, resources in various categories are given for the Russian Federation, as well as for federal districts and mining types of mineralization. Recommendations are given on the direction of further geological exploration for manganese mineralization.

Abstract

The article discusses the issues of localization and regional features of stratiform lead-zinc mineralization in carbonate strata within the poorly studied part of the Vendian-Early Paleozoic carbonate basin of the Siberian Platform cover. It gives the characteristics of rock and material complexes, tectonic structures, facies heterogeneities in the areal stru cture that control the position of mineralization, its morphostructural, mineralogical and geochemical features, geophysical and isotopic geochemical characteristics. It substantiates that mineralization belongs to the Mississippian commercial geological type of stratiform lead-zinc deposits, a unique feature of which within the Siberian Platform is the association of mineralization with the Devonian-Carboniferous intracontinental rifting and Pb, Zn, Ag, Mn orientation of ores. The proposed model elements make it possible to use them as pros pecting criteria and indicators of stratiform lead-zinc mineralization, including in buried areas.

Abstract

Information is provided about the Kharga gold ore system of the Amur province. More than 130 tons of gold were extracted from its gold deposits and placers. The individual elements of the system are a graben-syncline structure composed of the metamorphosed Paleozoic rocks with radial and concentric faults; Early Cretaceous gold mineralization of the gold-quartz and, to a lesser extent, gold-antimony formation, confined to the periphery of the system; as well as modern gold placers in the Kharga river basin formed due to gold mineralization.

Abstract

The article gives a brief overview of the development of joint research by the Geological Survey of Vietnam and A. P. Karpinsky Russian Geological Research Institute. We conducted metallogenic zoning for Sb, Sn, W, Cu, Ni, Au, provide characteristics of the main metallogenic taxa of Northern Vietnam with examples of typical ore districts, clusters, and deposits and give recommendations for their further study.
